Epiphone DR-100

Rating: 4.0 / 5

The classic rock-bottom-budget acoustic. Not fancy, but a genuinely playable dreadnought for the lowest sensible spend.

The budget starting point

The DR-100 is one of the cheapest acoustics worth owning. It has a laminate spruce top (not solid, so less tonal bloom over time) but a perfectly serviceable, full dreadnought sound and a comfortable neck. For an absolute beginner testing the water on a tight budget, it does the job.

Spend a little more for a solid-top Yamaha FG800 if you can — but if the budget is firm, the DR-100 gets you playing.
