About Guitar Gear
Guitar Gear is a reviews-and-buyer’s-guide site for guitarists, written by a small team of working players. Between us we’ve gigged blues, metal, jazz, folk, funk and ambient, taught hundreds of beginners, fixed amps on the bench and built acoustics from scratch — and we bring all of that to how we talk about gear.
Our roots go back to the old Aussie Guitar Gear Heads community that lived on this domain. That forum has long since moved on, and the active community now lives elsewhere — Guitar Gear today is an independent editorial site, not a revival of the forum. We simply want to keep this corner of the web useful to players.
What we cover
- Reviews — individual guitars, amps, pedals, pickups and recording gear; every review says whether we’ve personally tested it.
- Buyer’s guides — “best X for Y” round-ups and comparisons to help you spend wisely.
- The team — meet the players behind the reviews, each with their own niche and background.
How we review gear
Every review is clearly marked as either Tested (we’ve actually played the gear and the page names the reviewer) or Research-based (we haven’t played it, and we say so on the page). We don’t pretend to have tested gear we haven’t. Full methodology is on our editorial standards page.
How we make money
Guitar Gear is supported by display advertising and affiliate commissions. When you click a product link and buy something, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This never affects which gear we recommend or what we say about it. Full details are on our affiliate disclosure page.
Editorial independence
Brands don't pay for inclusion or for higher ratings. When a piece is sponsored or a product was provided for testing, we say so on that page.
